Isaiah 61:1

The people who were just described as comforted and replanted now become rebuilders. Grace does not leave them passive. Those who have been restored are drawn into restoration. The ruins are ancient, the devastations long-standing, the desolations layered through generations. Isaiah's wording does not pretend that the damage was shallow. What has been broken has been broken for a long time. God’s answer, however, reaches all the way into places where hopelessness has settled like dust.

Isaiah 61:6

Now the identity of the restored people is named plainly: “You shall be called the priests of the Lord.” The verse gives them a vocation before it gives them privilege. Priests and ministers are those who belong near God for the sake of worship, witness, and service. The burden is not mere elevation in status. It is consecration. The people are being reclaimed for holy service.

Isaiah 61:9
